Creature Performer, Puppeteer and Actor for Television and Film

Nick Kellington is one of the UK’s principle Creature Performers.

Nick’s big break in TV and Film came over 20 years ago when he was cast as Igglepiggle in the Cbeebies bedtime hour favourite, “In the Night Garden”. Filming a total of 100 episodes over 2 seasons, in which Nick was the only performer ever to play Igglepiggle, the show won 2 BAFTAs and is still shown every evening in the UK to help the nation’s children get to sleep. Nick performed the character’s body movements and animatronic puppeteers Igglepiggle’s face.

This lead onto Nick being cast in another Cbeebies flagship series, “ZingZillas”, set around the musical adventures of a pop band of apes on a magical island. Nick played Tang, the band’s orangutan guitarist for 4 seasons in a total of 104 episodes.

In 2015 Nick was then cast in the reboot of the iconic children’s series Teletubbies where he performs the body movements, animatronic puppeteers the face and performs the voice of Dipsy, the green Teletubby for all 120 episodes over 4 seasons, continuing to voice the character for the 2022 animated series “Teletubbies Let’s Go!”

In 2016 Nick fulfilled a life long dream when he appeared for the first time in the Star Wars galaxy. Joining Neal Scanlan’s Creature FX team, Nick played Bistan A.K.A. Space Monkey in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and went on to be a Creature Performer and Puppeteer for multiple characters on several of the Star Wars films and Television series, an ongoing professional relationship that Nick is fortunate enough to have to this day.

Then in 2019 another once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came when Nick was cast to play Skekmal The Hunter in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance for The Jim Henson Company on Netflix. The 10 episode critically acclaimed show went on to win an Emmy.

In 2022, Nick played Pickle Pony for “Lovely Little Farm” for 14 episodes over 2 seasons on Apple TV+. The family drama was produced for Apple by Darrall Macqueen (the company that had been entrusted with the Teletubbies reboot) and went on to win another BAFTA, a Venice TV award as well as a Broadcast Award UK.

In 2024, once again with Neal Scanlan, Nick got to experience yet another dream job working with the legendary director Tim Burton. Nick was incredibly happy and grateful to be asked to play the character Bob Shrinker in the hit film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”.

Working for over 20 years in the Film and Television industry, Nick prides himself on his commitment to any role no matter how big or small, on his positive and professional attitude and loves working as part of a team to create iconic and fantastical characters that are recognised and loved around the world.

In this time, Nick has been lucky enough to work with many of the UK’s leading Creature FX workshops and CFX artists including Neal Scanlan, Millennium FX, Animated Extras and John Nolan, in fabricated animatronic creature suits, in prosthetic make ups, in performance capture, in puppetry teams and with VFX reference puppets and creatures as well.

Through all these amazing projects and experiences, Nick has always remained happy and humble, maintaining that he is not famous but the characters that he has helped create are.
